Gavin and Stacey co-stars Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon joined forces on the red carpet at the National Television Awards.

Jones, who plays Nessa on the hit show, and Brydon, who takes the role of Uncle Bryn, posed for photos together ahead of the awards ceremony at London's O2 Arena.

The actress and writer, who co-created Gavin and Stacey with James Corden, brought back the much-loved series for a one-off Christmas special in December.

It has since been revealed that the episode was watched by an audience of 18.5 million, becoming the BBC's biggest TV programme outside of sporting and national events.

It was also the biggest single episode of comedy across all channels since records began.

Jones, 53, wore a black dress with fringe detailing for the occasion, while Brydon, 54, looked smart in a tuxedo and bow tie.

Discussing the success of the Christmas special with PA news agency, Jones said: “We had no idea whether after 10 years people would be interested still. We thought a few people would watch it but we did not expect eight-and-a-half million. It was a shock – a lovely shock and a huge compliment.”

She added: “We don’t have any plans at all [for a new series]. That’s the truth.

“We still have the same situation, which is that James and I live on different continents so getting together to write is very difficult, so who knows? At the moment there are no plans.”

Jones and Brydon's co-stars Joanna Page (Stacey), Mathew Horne (Gavin) and Alison Steadman (Pam) were also in attendance at the awards ceremony, though Gavin and Stacey is not eligible for any awards.
