GBBO 2018: When does The Great British Bake Off start, who are the contestants plus what to expect in this year's show

Get your rolling pins at the ready - The Great British Bake Off returns to our screens later this month.

The hit baking show underwent a revamp last year as it moved from BBC to Channel 4, resulting in the exit of judge Mary Berry.

Sophie Faldo came out on top last year, so which star baker will be following in her footsteps this series?

Here's everything you need to know about when Bake Off starts, who the contestants are and what to expect from this year's series:

When does Bake Off start?

Remember to save the date because Channel 4 has officially confirmed that Bake Off will start on Tuesday 28th August at 8pm.

Who are the judges?

Returning to the judging panel will be GBBO veteran Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Confirming her return to the show on social media, Prue said she was "thrilled."

Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig will return as hosts.

Who are the contestants?

12 bakers are dusting off their aprons to enter the infamous tent.

From a techno DJ to a research scientist, each baker is bound to bring something a little different to the table.

What's new about this series?

For the first time, Bake Off will be doing a vegan week. Contestants will be put through their paces as they are forced to leave behind butter and eggs to create an animal-product-free bake.

Paul Hollywood said of the decision: "Veganism seems to be growing and we wanted to represent that."

He added: "You can't just say: 'It's okay for vegan [food]. It has to taste good, period."

There will also be a Danish week, which Paul said was inspired by host Sandi, who is half-Danish.

Bizarrely, the first showstopper of the series will be a biscuit selfie (yes, you heard that right). We can't wait to see what the bakers come up with.
