Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson may be eyeing up a return to Casualty.

The actress, who currently plays Carly Hope in Emmerdale, was last seen on the BBC show in 2014 as paramedic Tamzin Bayle, who became romantically involved with former regular Jeff Collier.

But Gemma has now teased that she would be open to returning to her Casualty role in the future – despite previously insisting that she isn't leaving Emmerdale.

"I'd love to go back to Casualty," she told The Sun. "I mean I've always said never say never. You know, I think if anything is left open, which Casualty was for me, the odd cameo here and there isn't going to hurt anyone.

"I absolutely loved it and I loved the people – the only downside was that it was down in Cardiff. I'm still in touch with Matt Bardock, who played Jeff, and Jane Hazlegrove, who's Dixie.

"When we were at the NTAs recently and they won Best Drama, it was so brilliant and I was so happy for them. I went over and had a chat with them all. And we won Best Soap so they all came over and congratulated me."

Speculation over Gemma's future on Emmerdale emerged earlier this month after reports claimed that she had informed bosses she planned to leave the show for an "extended break".

The busy actress is already juggling her Emmerdale commitments with her exciting new radio job - but later spoke out about the rumours, insisting she had renegotiated her contract with the ITV soap and wasn't going anywhere.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
