Gemma Collins brands Love Island 'mind-numbingly boring' as she backs calls for 'diversity' in the villa

Gemma Collins has branded Love Island “mind-numbingly boring” as she described it as “a show for the youngsters”.

The reality star, who shot to fame on The Only Way Is Essex, admitted she wasn’t the biggest fan of the ITV2 show, despite the country being gripped by the latest series.

“The young people, they’ve seen an opportunity and they’re going for it. For us, we’re a little bit older and wiser,” she told Good Morning Britain.

“It is a bit mind-numbingly boring to watch, however it’s a guilty pleasure for people.”

Collins conceded that it was “for the youngsters” and backed the call for more “diversity and older people” in the villa.

Although, Collins did disagree with Piers Morgan’s assessment that the contestants are all “brain-dead zombies”, telling him it was a “little harsh”.

Collins, through her limited knowledge of the latest series, did back Amy Hart to win the show because of her “great personality”.

“I would be signing her the minute she comes out of the house,” she said. “She’s not going to get a normal job, she’ll get signed up for TV.”

Air hostess Amy is the only contestant to win Morgan over, too, having previously revealed that she was his favourite passenger.

Amy is currently coupled up with “half-boyfriend” Curtis Pritchard in the villa, having hit it off when the series kicked off earlier this month.

However, the duo’s romance was under threat last week after a kissing challenge left Amy raging with Curtis for rating her a “seven” while awarding Arabella Chi a 10.

In the Beach Hut, the air hostess fumed: “Curtis gave supermodel Arabella a ten because it was a great connection. And he gave me a seven so that’s not cool.”

Upon realising his mix-up, Curtis tried his best to win an unimpressed Amy back around but she was clearly not having any of it.

"I scratched your neck like I always do, so you knew it was me,” she told him. “And then you gave me a seven and rated everyone else really high.”

Determined to state his case, Curtis replied: “I didn’t know that it was you.”

Fortunately for Curtis, he was later given the opportunity to go out on a date with Amy, giving him ample opportunity to patch things up.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2.
