We’ve all been there. You’ve just purchased a brand spanking new pair of Stan Smiths only to find they can’t handle the British weather and suddenly you find ourselves with a pair of lace-ups which have gone way past the acceptable stage of ‘worn-in’.

But a genius hack for cleaning white trainers has gone viral thanks to one Twitter user. After sharing a photograph of her Converse before and after cleaning them, users flocked to ask her for her magical ways.

And it turns out, the genius method isn’t as challenging as we first feared.

First rinse your shoes. Then, mix 1:1.5 of baking soda and detergent before scrubbing your lace-ups with a toothbrush. After letting them rest for a while, rinse and put in the washing machine. To dry, simply add baby powder.

So next time, don’t throw out your dirty trainers. Instead, just raid your mum’s kitchen cupboards…
