George Clooney cheers up with John Oiver with a star-studded gift

To close out the season finale of Last Week Tonight on Sunday, host John Oliver reflected on the past season that saw him eventually make the move back into a studio. But he said that he was actually feeling a little down, especially after revealing that despite being back in a studio, he still hasn’t seen much of his staff since March of 2020.

“And though I am definitely looking forward to next year, there is no question that it has been difficult spending so much of this one in isolation,” Oliver said.

And who better to come and help cheer up Oliver than George Clooney? The star appeared earlier in the season during an episode every time Oiliver snapped his fingers, so the host tried it again and there was Clooney. Only this time, the movie star gave Oliver the power to summon any celebrity with a snap of his fingers, but only for a few minutes. And while the gift had good intentions, it didn’t quite go as planned for Oliver.

GEORGE CLOONEY: I'm not supposed to do this, but you seem more pathetic than usual.

JOHN OLIVER: Yeah. That's harsh, but also fair.

GEORGE CLOONEY: For the next few minutes, I'm going to give you the power to summon any celebrity with that snap.

JOHN OLIVER: Really?

KYLIE MAR: On Sunday's season finale of "Last Week Tonight," host John Oliver was feeling a little down after revealing that despite being back in a studio, he still hasn't seen much of his staff since March of 2020. And who better to come to John's rescue and cheer him up than a former superhero, George Clooney. Unfortunately, while his gift of summoning celebrities had good intentions, it didn't quite go as planned for John.

JOHN OLIVER: Jennifer Coolidge! Jennifer, hi.

JENNIFER COOLIDGE: Look, it's Jimmy Kimmel.

JOHN OLIVER: Oh, no! George Clooney gave me the power to summon any celebrity that I want with a snap of a finger.

WILL FERRELL: Oh, he did that again? He gives that power away to anyone. Last week I got someone by a guy who sold Clooney a pack of Trident.

KYLIE MAR: Things only went downhill from there as people like RuPaul, Kevin from The Office, and even the white void he did the show from during the pandemic met him with hostility and plenty of confusion.

JOHN OLIVER: Holy [BLEEP], Cardi B! Hi. Hi, Cardi.

CARDI B: Who said that?

JOHN OLIVER: I'm John.

CARDI B: Alexa?

JOHN OLIVER: Nope, not Alexa.

CARDI B: Alexa?

JOHN OLIVER: Nope, not Alexa. I'm John Oliver, Cardi. It's lovely to meet you. I never thought we'd get to speak.

CARDI B: Alexa?

JOHN OLIVER: Nope, not Alexa. No.

KYLIE MAR: It wasn't the first time that the show, which will be returning for a ninth season next year, has summoned George Clooney. And despite this gift, it probably won't be the last.

- Go away.

JOHN OLIVER: Snap your fingers.

- Alakazam! Could you just snap your fingers?

- The white man won't leave. The white man won't leave.

JOHN OLIVER: I will. I will. I'll leave.

GEORGE CLOONEY: Time's up. How was it, John?

JOHN OLIVER: I mean, people were pretty relentlessly mean to me, George. But honestly, it was kind of great.
