George Conway: Trump, campaign experiencing ‘ultimate implosion’

Conservative lawyer George Conway argued that former President Trump and his campaign are experiencing their “ultimate implosion.”

Conway, during a Sunday appearance on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” weighed in on the Trump campaign after last week’s debate, which was widely viewed as a win for Vice President Harris.

“This is the ultimate implosion, and we’re watching it live,” Conway said. “And it’s going to get worse.”

Conway referenced the questions and criticism Trump has received in recent days about his ties to Laura Loomer, who posted racist remarks online about Harris and flew with the former president to the debate.

Trump has said he doesn’t agree with Loomer’s comments, and his team confirmed she does not have an official role with the campaign.

Conway said on MSNBC that Trump’s team has “lost control over him,” adding that Loomer is the only person with control because she is whispering in his ear, telling him “everything’s great” and he is “amazing.”

Polling of the presidential races continues to shift in Harris’s favor after the debate. One survey found Harris gained support during the debate, while Trump lost support. Additionally, North Carolina and Georgia, once seen as more conservative states that would go to Trump, are shifting to being considered toss-ups.

Conway argued the polls are a sign that none of Trump’s ”tricks are working anymore,” because “we’re on to them.”

Conway also said a Trump post about Taylor Swift over the weekend shows the former president is “just lashing out.”

Immediately following the debate, the singer endorsed Harris and urged people to register to vote. Days later, Trump posted to his Truth Social site, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Additionally, Trump during last week’s debate amplified a false claim about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, eating people’s pets. The claim caused a lot of fallout in the city, including bomb threats with hateful messaging toward migrants, and school evacuations.

Conway, who has long called Trump a liar, said the former president and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), are making up fake stories to win the election.

“It’s not working for him, and he knows it and he knows he’s going down. … Remember, he’s running not just for president, he’s running from prison,” Conway said.

In a statement to The Hill, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said Conway “has no idea what he’s talking about and suffers from a serious case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his brain.”
