The beloved singer’s loved ones have ramped up security because they are said to be concerned his grave at Highgate Cemetery in north London will be robbed and tributes left by friends and relatives stolen.

George’s grave is currently surrounded by pots of daffodils. The family has kept the date of his funeral a secret and they are conscious that a string of anticipated celebrity guests, such as Sir Elton John, Martin Kemp and ex-Wham! star Andrew Ridgeley, could cause the cemetry to be vandalised and the ceremony to descend into a circus, according to the Daily Star newspaper.

George will be buried next to his mother Lesley Panayiotou – who passed away in 1997 – and it’s believed his ex-partner Fadi Fawaz has not been invited to the ceremony.

Fadi discovered George’s body at his home on Christmas day aged 53 and there were some reports that the star could have died from a possible drug overdose but toxicology tests recently revealed the music icon passed away from natural causes.

The ‘Careless Whisper’ singer is also reported to have left his £10 million London mansion to his older sister Melanie, 55 and she is thought to have already moved into the home whilst she plans the funeral of the ex-Wham! star.

A source said: “George was very close to his whole family but he had a particularly special bond with Melanie, who was by his side at the height of his fame.

“She adores the Highgate house, one of the first he bought. They shared some wonderful times there and it has a special place in her heart. Melanie is staying there at the moment while she organises the funeral.”
