The Hungarian prime minister was accused of rigging elections, stacking the courts and embezzling public funds in a rap battle written by artificial intelligence.

Daniel Freund, a German Green MEP and leading anti-corruption campaigner, requested the song about Viktor Orban and “corruption in Hungary” from the Microsoft-funded ChatGPT platform.

The Hungarian government hit back, rhyming Bundestag with swag before concluding that the chatbot “is nothing more than a bulls--t generator”.

Mr Freund’s rap said: “He’s been stacking the courts, packing the press, making sure his critics are silenced, no less,” the AI application responded.

‘Scams and hustles’

“Using public funds to line his pockets, it’s time to call him out, let’s unlock it.

“From football clubs to luxury castles, Orban’s empire is built on scams and hustles, it’s time to clean up, it’s time to fight, we won’t back down until Orban’s out of sight.”

Mr Freund has repeatedly called on the European Union to withhold funds from Budapest in a long-running spat over the rule of law with Mr Orban.

He has previously accused the bloc’s longest-serving leader of using cash from Brussels to rig elections.

Mr Orban, who was first elected as Hungary’s prime minister in 2010, has been at loggerheads with many of his EU counterparts over his erosion of democratic standards, stance on gay rights and championing of “illiberal democracy”.

Budapest is one of the biggest beneficiaries of EU cash, but has had some funding cut in recent years because of widespread complaints over his rule.

ChatGPT is a form of AI that has risen to prominence in recent months. The system can respond to questions and understand the context of follow-up queries much like in human conversations.

‘He’s got swag’

Zoltan Kovacs, the Hungarian government’s spokesman, used the application to pen a response to Mr Freund.

“Yo, let me tell you ’bout Daniel Freund; A German politician that you need to comprehend; Representing the Greens in the Bundestag; Fighting for justice and freedom, he’s got swag,” ChatGPT responded.

Mr Kovacs said the response was proof the chatbot “is nothing more than a bulls--t generator”.
