Alexis Sanchez became Chile's all-time leading goalscorer after netting in his nation's 1-1 draw against Germany on Thursday.

The Arsenal star opened the scoring in the Confederations Cup Group B clash in Kazan after his club teammate Shkodran Mustafi gave the ball away, which allowed Arturo Vidal to play a one-two with Sanchez, who then smashed the ball in at the near post in only the sixth minute.

Sanchez's goal - the 400th of the tournament - was his 38th for Chile and takes him top of his nation's goalscoring charts while it also injected his team with confidence in Russia.

Indeed, Chile could have doubled their lead shortly afterwards when Eduardo Vargas unleashed a powerful long-range effort which crashed off the underside of the bar in the 19th minute.

But despite Chile's hold on the game, Germany managed to restore parity just before the break when Lars Stindl fired in a cross from the left to make it 1-1 in the 40th minute.

Germany improved after the break but neither side could find the winner, and the draw means Chile maintain hold of the Group B standings with four points, closely followed by Germany who sit second also on four points.

Chile now take on Australia on Sunday while Germany play Cameroon.
