'It is getting boring now, stop slating Skegness'

Skegness has faced an abundance of criticism over the years and this negativity has now reached absurd new heights. It's about time it all stopped.

The beloved Lincolnshire seaside town was named among the world's worst holiday spots along with North Korea and Syria by travel website Destination Tips - a ranking that has recently been brought up again by media outlets. Really? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but to compare it with a country that is considered to have the worst human rights record in the world is ludicrous.

For millions of holidaymakers, Skegness continues to be a go-to getaway every year. It is a haven for families looking for a simple and joyful holiday by the beach with plenty to keep the kids entertained. And, most importantly, it doesn't break the bank.

Many sadly can't afford to jet off to five star resorts each year, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve to relax and have fun. The vast golden beach, traditional amusements and bustling promenade - not to mention an array of delicious fish and chip shops - are a perfect recipe for a great British summer holiday.

Skegness is not trying to be something it's not. And that's what makes it so great. You can pop along for the day with just £10 in your pocket and come away with a smile on your face (and some change). Something I experienced first hand.

I just recently watched a YouTube video of a young travelling couple who decided to visit Skegness to see if it was really as bad as people make out. As I expected, they came away extremely impressed and were blow away by how friendly everyone was that they came across.

And that's the issue. The people knocking Skegness likely haven't even set foot in the town. I myself was guilty of having a negative preconception of Skegness before I'd visited because, let's be honest, it's hard not to with all the horrible coverage it gets.

I'd urge anyone who hasn't been to pop across on a sunny summer's day and see for yourself why the town holds such a special place in people's hearts. There's nothing better than a nice portion of fish and chips followed by an ice cream on Skegness beach with that fresh sea air under your nose.

This iconic British seaside town deserves better. Of course, it's not perfect, but the constant jibes and disrespect are not needed and quite frankly boring. So to those who continually bash Skegness, get off your high horse and come see what the area has to offer. You never know, you might crack a smile.
