Job interviews are never easy at the best of times but it seems Google doesn’t just ask you the usual questions but really make you think out of the box.

It seems that for a job at the all-knowing tech giant requires some very quick thinking and mental arithmetic.

These following questions were submitted by Google interviewees on Quora and collated by i100:

  1. How many petrol stations are there in the US?

  2. Design an evacuation plan for San Francisco.

  3. How many times a day does a clock’s hands overlap?

  4. Why are manhole covers round?

  5. How many degrees are there in the angle between the hour and minute hands of a clock when the time is a quarter past three?

  6. You’re the captain of a pirate ship, and your crew gets to vote on how the gold is divided up. If fewer than half of the pirates agree with you, you die. How do you recommend apportioning the gold in such a way that you get a good share of the booty, but still survive?

  7. How many piano tuners are there in the entire world?

Just in case you were thinking of learning the perfect answer to these brain twisters - apparently Google never re-uses a question that’s leaked onto the internet…sorry chaps.

Then again, if we all practice answering these questions - standard HR questions will seem a doddle.
