From Good Housekeeping

Many of us have hard floors in our homes these days, and while they may be easier to keep clean than carpet, having to vacuum or sweep them before you mop can be a pain. A hard floor cleaner, however, can halve the work involved in keeping hard floors spotless, as these clever appliances vacuum and wash flooring in one go. When we tried out the Vax Glide hard floor cleaner, which does just that, we were impressed by its overall performance.

It did well in our dry vacuuming tests, collecting the majority of dust and debris after a few sweeps to leave floors ready for wet cleaning. The water tank is easy to fill and top up with detergent (a starter pack of detergent is included), which means it’s quick to set up.

It’s intuitive to use, with a water trigger that allows you to control how much water is released onto the brush bar. Dirty water and debris are sucked up into a separate tank as you clean, and this is easy to empty. It removed light stains on tiled and vinyl floors with ease, but you may find that very dirty floors need cleaning a few times. Floors were left lightly damp after wet cleaning and didn’t take long to dry.

This hard floor cleaner is easy to manoeuvre and glides easily on all surfaces. It cleans quite close to the skirting board, but it’s worth noting that it doesn’t clean right into deeper grouted areas on tiled flooring. The brush roller is straightforward to remove for cleaning, or alternatively the machine has an effective, mess-free self-cleaning setting which means you don’t have to remove the brush roller at all.

The Vax Glide is battery operated, so there’s no cable to get in the way while you clean. The battery lasted 21 minutes on the highest power setting in our tests, which should give you plenty of time to clean at least two rooms thoroughly – or longer if you use the eco mode. Meanwhile, a full battery recharge takes around three hours. You can buy additional batteries separately so one set can always be charging while the other is in use, which may be handy if you have a larger home with a lot of hard flooring.

At £249.99 it’s a bit of an investment, but if you’ve got lots of hard floors, it’ll certainly cut down on cleaning time.

The Vax Glide is available now from Vax.co.uk from £249.99.
