Giant David Hasselhoff Statue Up For Auction

A 12-foot-long replica of David Hasselhoff is among some of his favourite memorabilia which is going up for auction.

Most of the items on display are from the actor and singer's two most popular TV shows, Knight Rider and Baywatch.

But the huge statue was a prop used in Hasselhoff's guest appearance on the children's show SpongeBob SquarePants.

"I have so much stuff," Hasselhoff explained. "And it was either put it in the attic, put it in a restaurant, or give it to somebody who really wants it, you know, and raise a little money for the Starlight Foundation, which is a great foundation."

The former Baywatch star has also enjoyed fame in Europe as a singer.

His song Looking for Freedom put him at the top of Germany's pop charts for several weeks.

Hasselhoff has also been the subject of controversy and humour in recent years, especially after a video leaked onto the internet showing the actor in an apparent alcoholic stupor trying to eat a cheeseburger.

But Hasselhoff, at least on camera, seems intent on not taking himself too seriously.

He joked that while he may have never starred in more serious shows like Grey's Anatomy or ER, his shows have at least made a lot of money.

The items will go on sale at Julien's Auction House in Beverly Hills on April 11 and 12.
