Giant gingerbread men coming to Sewerby Hall in 'sweet addition' to festive light display
Giant gingerbread men will be among the star attractions at an East Yorkshire festive spectacular.
The much-loved Winter Woodland light display is returning to Sewerby Hall and Gardens in December and the already impressive seasonal attraction is set to get even better this year with a "sweet addition".
It has now been revealed that 16 giant gingerbread men will be part of the 2024 display. These whimsical 8-foot tall illuminations will be positioned along the path at the start of the festive trail, enticing visitors into the colourful journey.

Marie Gascoigne, general manager of Sewerby Hall and Gardens, said: ''We are over the moon to announce this sweet addition to the 2024 Winter Woodland light display. We are thrilled that the charming gingerbread men will bring an extra sprinkle of magic to our Christmas light display.
"These new additions are sure to captivate the hearts of both young and old, making this year's display a must-see attraction."
The event, known for its stunning light display supported by special effects, transforms the grounds of Sewerby Hall and Gardens into a night-time spectacle, promising to amaze families and visitors alike with its festive charm.
New to 2024, the Winter Woodland will showcase never-before-seen light installations centred around a festive theme. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk down Gingerbread Lane, taking selfies along the way.
Another new feature for 2024 is an immersive light tunnel. Visitors will have the opportunity to become part of the story, interacting with festive characters such as a Baker, Puss In Boots and the Golden Goose along the illuminated trail.
For those looking for a fully immersive experience, the Golden Goose will be leaving golden eggs throughout the trail, which can be used to magically defeat the Old King Troll and save Christmas.
The festivities will extend into Sewerby Hall, where a new exhibition will take guests on a journey through the history and adaptations of the beloved fairy tale Puss In Boots.
Don't fret about feeling hungry during your visit - food and drinks will be available from the Clock Tower Café, Stables Pizza Company, Love Hog Roast and Peaky Grinders. A licensed bar from Louisianna Bars will be set up in the courtyard marquee, and additional refreshments, including delicious toasted marshmallows, will be available for purchase along the route.
To ensure visitors get the most out of their experience, there are specific arrival times to choose from each evening - available slots will be bookable on the website.
Meanwhile, relaxed performances, featuring reduced volume, no lasers or smoke machines, along with characters who are aware of sensory needs, will take place on Wednesday, December 11 and Monday, December 16, with the full experience resuming from 5.30pm.
Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ''The new Christmas light show at Sewerby isn't just a visual spectacle; it's a way for families and the community to come together and enjoy the spirit of Christmas.
"The illuminations are a brilliant addition to the attraction and offer a mesmerising experience to wow the senses. As well as the light display there is lots of entertainment as well as festive food and drink. We hope to see lots of people take the opportunity to come along and enjoy this exciting event!"
The Winter Woodland light display is set to return to Sewerby Hall and Gardens from Friday 6 to Sunday, December 22.
