Giant new vintage store opens selling classics from Levi's, Gucci, Nike and Adidas
Vintage clothing has always been a hit with shoppers, but with the ongoing cost of living crisis, second-hand items are more in demand than ever. So it's no surprise that a new shop dedicated to 'preloved fashion and circular items' is causing quite a stir.
ReMarket has opened its doors on London Road, nestled between Manchester Piccadilly train station and Piccadilly Markets, and is brimming with rails full of bargain finds. There are some big-name brands available such as Levi's, Nike, adidas, Stone Island, Gucci and Dickies, all at prices significantly lower than their brand-new counterparts.
The venue also serves as a hub for independent sellers, artists, and creative entrepreneurs, providing flexible spaces for hosting short-term pop-up events, reports the Manchester Evening News. Currently, the venue houses eight small businesses, including Bare Necessities, Archive X, 28 Vintage, Cherry Blossom Vintage and Blank Seams.
Bare Necessities, already a well-established retailer with three locations in Salford and Manchester City Centre, specialises in vintage clothing from the 80s to the 00s, offering a wide range of jackets, sweaters, trousers, jeans, t-shirts and more. At Stockport-based 28 Vintage, you can find premium outerwear from top brands including adidas, Nike, North Face, Helly Hansen, Ralph Lauren and more.
Before or after browsing the rails, shoppers can stop by the on-site coffee shop, operated by Cheshire-based Cuppello's, which recently opened a new location in Ancoats, to refuel with a cup of coffee and some pastries. ReMarket, with its mission to 'reintroduce second-hand items back into the market', was founded by Tony Shum, 24, from Stalybridge, Tameside, who is also the founder of Bare Necessities, and his partner Sophie Jones, 23, from Shrewsbury.
Tony, who relied on second-hand clothing while growing up, stated: "Our venue features eight small businesses, a 300 sq ft pop-up area, and 15 rail spaces for showcasing sustainable and independent brands.
"We handle sales for our 'rent a rail' sellers, allowing them to focus on their craft while reaching a diverse audience of locals and visitors. ReMarket fosters creativity and supports the circular economy, providing a platform for businesses to grow and experiment."
According to Tony, the feedback they have received so far has been 'absolutely amazing'. "People are really loving the whole concept, especially the coffee shop," he said. "We're seeing a lot of familiar faces returning, along with plenty of new ones, which is really exciting.
"The weekends have been especially busy, and it's great to see so much support. We're really passionate about building a vibrant community hub for people who share our love for preloved items and sustainable living. It feels like we're already making that happen, and we're thrilled to keep growing."
ReMarket is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, from 10am to 7pm on Saturdays, and from 11am to 5pm on Sundays. You can follow them on Instagram here.
