The Giles Deacon and Aspinal collaboration is charming and full of whimsy

“These are quintessential English girls, zooming around and having a good time in their frocks. They love the town and the countryside, they love fashion, quality and a bit of quintessentially English playfulness,” says Giles Deacon describing the woman in the whimsical illustrations he has created for his Giles X Aspinal collaboration.

Partnering with the British accessories brand, Deacon, the man behind Pippa Middleton’s wedding dress, has designed a playful 25-piece capsule collection which sees hand-drawn illustrations of his “Aspinal Girls” appear on everything from mini trunk bags to silk scarves and even Christmas crackers.

Rather than reinventing the wheel, Deacon chose to rework some of the brand's most popular styles with his playful and ultra-feminine penmanship.

The best-selling Hepburn bag now comes with a single ‘Aspinal girl’ embossed on the front while, elsewhere, silk scarves and a mini trunk bag are reimagined with a busy and colourful Aspinal girls print, featuring a coterie of glamorous women in cocktail dresses, ballgowns and cocoon-like coats, all - naturally - accessorising their outfits with a dinky Aspinal handbag.

“The design process for me always begins with the character – it’s who’s going to be wearing the piece and where she’s going,” said the womenswear designer.

“It is a great honour and privilege to join forces with the unique creative talent that is Giles Deacon,” says Iain Burton, founder of Aspinal of London. “Giles’s novel and beautiful reinterpretation of some of our classic accessories is entirely charming and stunningly executed, fresh yet timeliness, and we are proud to present a capsule collection which we hope will be cherished for many years to come.”

The collection is priced from £45 to £950, and will hit stores and online in mid-October.
