Gillian Anderson and 'The Crown's' Peter Morgan: It would end our relationship if we lived together

Gillian Anderson has admitted that if she ever moved in with her partner, it would be the end of their relationship.

The Sex Education star has been with her partner, The Crown creator Peter Morgan, since 2016, but they live separately and have no plans to share a home, ever.

Anderson explained to The Sunday Times: “My partner and I don’t live together. If we did, that would be the end of us. It works so well as it is – it feels so special when we do come together.”

The X-Files and The Fall actress added that one of the benefits was that she could see “a pair of trousers left lying on the floor at my partner’s house and step over them and not feel it is my job to do something about it”.

Anderson lives in London with her three children, and Morgan, whose writing credits also include The Queen, The Other Boleyn Girl, Frost/Nixon and Rush, has five children from his previous marriage.

Talking more about why the arrangement works so well for them, Anderson added: “There is nothing locking us in, nothing that brings up that fear of, ‘Oh gosh, I can’t leave because what will happen to the house, how will we separate?’. I start to miss the person I want to be with, which is a lovely feeling.”

She also spoke in the interview about bringing up her three children, saying that she travelled “constantly” to spend time with them while filming the X-Files movies and had cried when she breastfed her youngest for the last time.

Morgan was previously married to Austrian royalty - his wife of 17 years was Anna Carolina Schwarzenberg, the granddaughter of Prince Karel VI of Schwarzenberg and Princess Antonie von Furstenberg.

His Netflix hit The Crown has a busy awards season ahead, with plenty of nominations and a win at the Golden Globes for Olivia Colman in the Best Actress - Television Series Drama category.
