Gillian Anderson on threesome with Margaret Thatcher and other sexual fantasies
A threesome with Margaret Thatcher? It’s just one of the subjects actor Gillian Anderson touched on last night at a talk to promote her new book Want.
The book is a collection of female sexual fantasies, submitted by fans online and collated by Anderson (who happened to play Thatcher in The Crown).
Anderson reckons she has been thrust into the sex therapist’s chair after playing that role in the Netflix series Sex Education. Yesterday she took part in a panel about sex at Royal Festival Hall in London.
The fantasies described in the book were read out to a lively audience. Stories ranged from tales of raunchy one-night stands to more niche interests. One woman described her desire to be “used as a study tool for medical students”. Another fantasised about being milked like a cow – a kink that has been described as a “who-cow”.
Perhaps the strangest story of the night involved a woman with a Margaret Thatcher fantasy, in particular a desire to be in a threesome with the late Prime Minister whom Anderson played in season 4 of The Crown.
Anderson spoke on her role as a female sexual role model. She wanted to make it clear that “this isn’t my life…even though I played [a sex therapist].”
However, she did reveal that one of the tales in the book is her own. Since all of them are anonymous, with a few authenticating details about background and sexuality, readers will have to guess which one.
Anderson also said that she wants to go back to being a “regular” actor, despite launching this new sex book.
While it was she who collated the stories in the book, Anderson was keen to make it clear that Want is “every woman’s book”.
The purpose of the book, she claims, is not only to explore women’s sexual fantasies but to “equate living one’s life on one’s own terms, and [to advocate] the desire for that”.
Want by Gillian Anderson is published on 5th September.
