Toby Stephens and Gina McKee are set to star in a new play at Hampstead Theatre by Oscar winner Florian Zeller.

The pair join a cast including Paul McGann and Angel Coulby in The Forest from February 5.

The show, written by Zeller and translated by Christopher Hampton, is the first time the playwright has premiered a show outside his native France.

Zeller, whose film The Father also won a best actor Oscar for Anthony Hopkins, shared the best adapted screenplay award with his Hampton at this year’s Oscars.

The Forest, about a man struggling with a mid-life crisis, follows other works including The Height of the Storm and The Son which have been creative and commercial hits in London.

Its director Jonathan Kent said: “Zeller’s mysterious and fascinating new play is unlike anything he’s written before and, in fact, unlike anything I’ve ever directed. It demands all the creative and inventive talents of the remarkable company of actors I’ve been lucky enough to assemble.”
