Giorgi Mamardashvili spotted in Liverpool kit as £30m transfer at 'advanced' stage after medical
Giorgi Mamardashvili has been pictured in Liverpool training wear ahead of the Georgia international’s £30m move from Valencia. The goalkeeper underwent a medical on Monday after a deal was agreed with the La Liga outfit.
The Reds will pay an initial £25m for the shot-stopper, who will stay on loan with Valencia this season, with the move also including a further £5m in add-ons and it is being suggested a 10% sell-on clause is also included.
While the 23-year-old won’t be part of Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad this season, he has been spotted in the Reds’ training wear for the 2024/25 season after undergoing his medical.
Journalist Salva Gomis has posted a picture of the goalkeeper offering a thumbs up while wearing Liverpool colours on Twitter. In the accompanying caption, he wrote: “It shouldn't take long for Mamardashvili's move to LFC to become official.”
Speaking on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Valencia’s clash with Athletic Bilbao, manager Ruben Baraja confirmed that Mamardashvili’s move to Liverpool was at a ‘very advanced’ stage as he shared his delight at being able to retain the goalkeeper’s services on loan for the season.
“He is very advanced and the most positive thing is that he can compete with us this year,” Baraja said. “Hopefully it can be defined soon.
“The club makes a great sale for the club's economy and we continue to count on him from a sporting point of view. He will try to have a good season and be decisive in the team.
“I have always explained that in all clubs around the world, if there is a situation of a player on the market, if the club considers it appropriate, we have to adapt.
“For us, it is positive that the player is still with us, considering what has happened, it is good news.”
