Giovanni Pernice and Anton Du Beke's BBC travel show 'cancelled' amid Strictly Come Dancing controversy

Strictly Come Dancing's Giovanni Pernice has suffered yet another setback following his recent controversy on the show, as it's been reported that his popular travel series has now been 'shelved'.

The 33-year-old professional dancer had journeyed around Sicily and Spain with co-star Anton Du Beke for a rapturously received series earlier this year.

It saw them visiting their respective birthplaces and hinting at an imminent return to screens following the end of the series.

However, in light of recent developments unfolding around Giovanni's Strictly scandal, the situation appears to have changed.

His outing on the 2023 season of the beloved BBC dancing competition alongside actress Amanda Abbington sparked controversy when she left the show prematurely, attributing her exit to medical reasons.

She afterwards stated she battled post-traumatic stress disorder subsequent to her early departure, reports the Mirror.

Close friends of Amanda allegedly revealed that she considered Giovanni's approach during training to be "abrasive".

In recent weeks, fans have learned that Giovanni is reportedly facing potential legal pursuits from three previous Strictly dance partners amidst allegations.

Alongside this, it's believed BBC bosses are carrying out an internal probe into the matter.

In response to all this, Giovanni released a statement refuting any insinuation of "abusive or threatening behaviour".

The BBC reportedly will also not be renewing the travel series hosted by Giovanni and Anton, according to insider information.

"Giovanni and Anton had conversations about another travel show and had discussed where they could go next after their trips to Sicily and Spain," an unnamed source disclosed to The Sun.

"But Giovanni has now been told this won't be happening and there will not be another series. It's embarrassing because he'd actively hinted about getting another run but all discussions are now off and he's been informed that the show has now been canned."

As their latest episode came to a close, the cha-cha-champions gave hints about possible future shows.

Anton suggested: "What a lovely, lovely way to spend the summer. Where to next?"

In response, Giovanni charmingly quipped: "Well it doesn't really matter where we're going as long as we are together. I love you."

Reports suggest that Giovanni could be prepared for a career shift following rumours that he's leaving Strictly.

Speculation that Giovanni has ended his nine-year stint on the ballroom dance saga has surfaced due to an internal memo omitting Giovanni's name from this year's lineup of professional dancers.

According to the Mail Online, Giovanni's recently filed company 'Rock You Productions Ltd' which is connected to the 'operation of arts facilities', hinting that he may start his own dance school after hanging up his Strictly Come Dancing shoes.

Giovanni turned to Instagram to address the media storm that's enveloped his dance teaching methods, stating: "To my dear fans, you will be as surprised as I am that allegations have been made about my dance teaching methods in the media this week. Of course, I reject any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour, and I look forward to clearing my name.

"Those who have followed my journey on Strictly Come Dancing over the last decade will know that I am passionate and competitive. No-one is more ambitious for my dance partners than me. I have always striven to help them be the very best dancers they can be. This has always come from a place of love and wanting to win - for me and my dance partners. Thank you all once again for your continued love and support! Giovanni."

Approaches have been made to both Anton and Giovanni's representatives and the BBC by The Mirror for their comments.
