An 11-year-old girl was among the four people taken to hospital after an incident at a fairground in London. Emergency services were called to Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park on Saturday night (June 8) after a ride malfunctioned.

Four people were left in hospital, although police have since confirmed that none of them are believed to be in a life-threatening condition. The group included a man and a woman in their 40s, a man in his 50s and an 11-year-old girl.

The exact nature of the ride malfunction remains unclear, and enquiries are underway. Locals took to social media after the incident with one, called Hannah, posting: "We were the next in line for the ride and it collapsed in front of us. It was horrific and we feel sick at the thought of those affected."

Police confirmed that no-one was left trapped on the ride, and the Health and Safety Executive will be informed as part of the investigation. The country show is due to open again on Sunday (June 9), featuring music performances, market stalls and the funfair - although rides will be affected by closures.

A Lambeth Council spokesperson said: “Very sadly a funfair ride at the country show malfunctioned yesterday evening (June 8) injuring four people. They are being cared for in hospital and our thoughts are with them. An investigation into the incident, led the Met Police and Health and Safety Executive, is underway.

“We thank the emergency services for their swift response at the country show yesterday and for the support they are providing to the affected families.

“Following this incident, and to allow a full investigation, funfair rides at the show will be impacted by closures for the second day of the country show. The safety and well-being of our attendees remains our top priority, and we are committed to providing a secure and enjoyable experience for all visitors.”
