Yahoo News Eyewitness describes horror of finding child in a pool of blood after falling from a hotel window
A toddler left fighting for life after falling from a second-floor hotel window was found ‘covered in blood’, a horrified eyewitness said today.
The two-year-old girl was in a serious condition on Tuesday after fracturing her skull plunging from the hotel room window in Blackpool.
The young girl was staying at the Rooms Inn hotel in the Lancashire town with her parents, when she fell to the yard at the back of the hotel at around 9am on Tuesday morning.
A Lancashire police spokesperson told Yahoo News: “We were called by the ambulance service at shortly before 9am today to a report that a toddler had fallen from a second storey window of the Manor Royd hotel on Albert Road in Blackpool.
“The child, a girl aged two-and-a-half, was taken by air ambulance to Alder Hey Hospital suffering from a number of fractures and is in a serious condition.”
Yahoo News understands that the hotel is currently called the Manor Royd but is now called the Rooms Inn.
“Enquiries are underway.”
The spokesperson couldn't confirm any further details at the moment.
One witness confirmed to Yahoo news that the child was crying before the emergency services were called.
The owner of the nearby Arabella hotel Dianne Waters, told Yahoo News that her son was the first person to find the child “lying in a pool of blood”.
She said that her son was having breakfast when he heard noises that were similar to a “seagull squawking”.
When he looked out his window, which looked onto the back of the hotel he saw a young child lying in a pool of blood.
There did not appear to be any broken glass, indicating that the child may have fallen from an open window.
Ms Waters said that she saw the child being taken off in an ambulance with her mother.
“There were around five police cars and paramedics tending to the child,” she said.
According to her account, the toddler also suffered chest injuries.
