A return date for Michelle Keegan’s Our Girl has been confirmed by BBC, marking the start of the second block of series three.

The third series – starring Keegan as Corporal Georgie Lane – will return to BBC One on Tuesday 5 June for the eight episodes.

The successful show had its third series cut into three blocks of four, with the second block seeing the Section head to Boko Haram controlled Nigeria.

Our Girl creator Tony Grounds told RadioTimes.com: “When they arrive in this village, some schoolgirls have been taken.

“So they go there and are embroiled in a situation that tries to free the schoolgirls.”

Fans were left devastated when Elvis – played by Luke Pasqualino – was killed at the end of the latest episode, just after rekindling his romance with Georgie.

This time, Elvis will be replaced – in service at least – by Bones, who heads up his own special unit when they are tasked with rescuing 2 Section.

The second and third block of episodes will air together, meaning this is an eight-week run.

Our Girl returns to BBC One on Tuesday 5 June at 9pm, with Our Girl: Nigeria Tour.
