Girl viciously attacked near Sutton Coldfield bus stops as 'group kicked her on the floor'

A teenager was viciously attacked in Sutton Coldfield and then taken to hospital. The incident took place in Lower Parade next to the town centre’s main bus stops on Thursday (September 19).

Footage seen by BirminghamLive shows the 16-year-old girl lying prone on the road, being kicked several times, before members of the public intervene. Police have said they believe ‘a number of teenagers were involved’.

Shortly after the attack, paramedics and police are pictured surrounding the girl and treating her on the side of the road nearest the Gracechurch Centre. West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the incident.

A spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a teenage girl being assaulted in Lower Parade in Sutton Coldfield at just after 1.15pm on Thursday afternoon. An ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.

“The teenager was assessed at the scene for injuries not believed to be serious. After treatment, she was taken to hospital for further assessment.”

West Midlands Police has said it is investigating the incident and made a point of thanking members of the public for helping the girl. A spokeswoman for the force said: “We are investigating after a teenager was assaulted in Sutton Coldfield.

“We were called to a report of a disorder in Lower Parade at around 1.15pm on Thursday (September 19). It's believed a number of teenagers were involved in an incident that resulted in a girl being assaulted.

“Members of the public came to the aid of the 16-year-old and we would like to thank them for calling us and for intervening. The girl was treated for her injuries, which thankfully are not believed to be serious.

“We have a number of active lines of enquiry. We are now working with the local schools and will keep you updated on our investigation. We understand that people will be concerned about what's happened on Thursday and officers will be in the area carrying out high visibility patrols to reassure people.
