Glasgow army veteran proposes to partner after graduating university in 'special moment'
A Glasgow army veteran has proposed to his partner of eight years following his university graduation ceremony.
Steven Bell, who celebrated his birthday on the same day as he received his degree at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall, decided to make the day a little extra special when he got down on one knee to propose to future hubby Clark, 31, from Edinburgh.
The 34-year-old 3 SCOTS veteran received his BSc (Honours) in Geography and Environmental Science on Friday, October 25, alongside 660 graduates of the Open University after four years of study.

Steven had posed alongside his clueless partner who thought they were just taking photos to celebrate his graduation. But as Clark looked at the camera the ScottishPower worker turned to his partner and got down on one knee in an emotional moment for the pair which was captured on video.
An emotional Clark speaking after the proposal said: "(I'm) Shocked. Very shocked. I didn't expect that at all.
"But I'm so happy. I’m incredibly proud of Steven’s hard work and dedication—this day couldn’t be more perfect.”
Steven added: “Graduating on my birthday was already special, but proposing to Clark here makes it unforgettable.
Reflecting on his experience, Steven encourages others considering study with The Open University to "just go for it," noting the OU’s flexibility that allowed him to balance his studies, work, and personal life. The OU made it possible to achieve my goals while maintaining a good work-life balance.
“If you’re thinking about it, don’t hesitate—there’s never a wrong time to invest in yourself and your future.”
The ceremony marked the 50th year since The Open University held its first Scottish degree ceremony in 1974.
