Glasgow plant-based food fans in search of some tasty new dishes should be heading to the west end where they'll be treated to vegan Mexican street food specialists Antojitos.

Having taken over the kitchen at The 78 Bar in Finnieston, the street food brand, who have already gathered a huge fan base thanks to their spot at Edinburgh Street Food in the Omni Centre in the capital, are serving up a colourful array of dishes that Mexican cuisine fans will love.

Serving seven days a week, until 9pm (starting at 4pm Monday and Tuesday, 2pm Wednesday to Friday and 12pm Saturday and Sunday) Antojitos are known for creating a mouth-watering selection of plant-based tacos, quesadillas, tostadas and taquitos.

Proving that creating vegan dishes doesn't have to donate a loss of flavour or quality, the team say favourites with their customers include the likes of their beer-battered banana blossom tacos, which are served in pairs on a soft handmade corn tortilla with avocado crema, curtido, battered banana blossom, pico de Gallo and pickled onions, and their Chipotle Jackfruit Tinga, which are also served on tortilla, with avocado crema, iceberg, chipotle jackfruit tinga, queso fresco and pink onions.

Other popular dishes featured on their extensive menu include the likes of their Seitan barbacoa quesadillas, plantain chips, loaded nachos and refried bean tostadas.

Chef and founder John Kelly originally started Antojitos in a wee food truck parked on his mum's driveway in 2021, before going on to take his brand to festivals across the country including the Fringe and the Pitt in Leith, and appearing in pop-up kitchens in places like Edinburgh's iconic Dog House in Newington, Nice and Sleazy in Glasgow and even a guest appearance at Camden in London.

A fan of Latin cuisine, it was the decision to go veggie - and the lack of Mexican food choices for non-meat eaters - that set him on the path to go solo, giving birth to Antojitos.

Initially faced with a bit of resistance to the idea of meat-free Mexican on social media, he told our sister site Edinburgh Live, he's since found the majority of Antojitos fans aren't vegans, adding that whether it's meat or meatless is immaterial, when you're faced with authentic, flavour-packed street food.

You can find Antojitos at Bar 78 on Kelvinhaugh Street in Finnieston and their Glasgow menu can be found on their official website.
