Glasgow Christmas light switch on date announced as ticket ballot returns for 2024

A date has been revealed for Glasgow's Christmas Light Switch On.

This year's spectacular switch-on, from Glasgow Loves Christmas, will take place on Sunday, November 17 at George Square, marking the beginning of the festive season.

The much-loved event is free to attend however, there is a ballot that hopeful attendees must enter in order to get tickets.

It has not yet been confirmed when this year's ballot will go live but a spokesperson for Glasgow Life said details will be announced soon.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Life said: “Glasgow’s Christmas lights switch-on, which symbolises the countdown to Christmas for many in the city, will take place on Sunday 17 November.

"We look forward to announcing further information, including details of how to enter the switch-on ticket ballot, shortly on our website and social media channels.”

Around 10,600 ticket holders gathered in George Square last year on Sunday, November 19 to see the lights switch on at 7pm. The event was hosted by Clyde 1's George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie, with popstar Michelle McManus performing her new Christmas single.
