Glasgow's city centre has an added hit of magic this festive season as Europe’s largest star-shaped light tunnel arrives on Argyle Street.

The North Star is the latest attraction to be switched on in the city, and has seen Argyle Street transformed into 'Stargyle Street', with the 20ft tall, 20ft wide and 80ft long immersive experience now open.

Shoppers, residents and tourists alike can join in the fun by pressing a special activation button that triggers a chasing light sequence representative of Santa’s sleigh taking off, sending LED lights racing along the tunnel accompanied by a playful whooshing sound.

The star tunnel now joins the iconic City Chambers in George Square which also features a state-of-the-art lighting and projection show provided by 21CC Group. Running nightly from 3:30pm to 10pm, the council say the display brings to life enchanting North Pole-inspired themes, whimsical snowy landscapes, and playful designs featuring candy canes and swirling snowflakes, adding that this festive showcase "highlights Glasgow’s stunning architecture and fills the square with holiday cheer".

Glasgow’s Lord Provost, Jacqueline McLaren said: “Christmas in Glasgow is always a magical experience especially when shared with family and friends. The festive season is now in full swing. I’d encourage everyone to visit the markets, the tree and see all the sparkling lights in George Square then take a walk through our new star tunnel on Argyle Street adding even more sparkle to Christmas.”
