A Glasgow man has been rushed for surgery after being attacked by a dog at Glasgow Green on Friday evening (November 8).

Dad-of-one Luca had been jogging around the park at around 5.30pm when he was attacked by the animal which his wife described as a ‘pitbull’. The 40-year-old suffered deep wounds to his arm, and was allegedly left on the ground by the owner of the dog close to St. Andrew’s Suspension Bridge.

“There were two guys with two pitbulls,” Luca’s wife told Glasgow Live , shortly before his surgery at Glasgow Royal Infirmary on Saturday afternoon. “He was jogging past, and they were occupying all the space, so he couldn’t pass by easily.

“One of them attacked him, and he defended himself. He fell down and the dog left him, but the guy just ran away.

“The other guy had a dog on a lead, and my husband asked him to help. He said ‘I’m sorry mate and just ran."

Fortunately, passers by, including a doctor, stopped to help Luca. His partner added: “They called the ambulance, they called the police, and they stayed there all the time with him. I don’t even know who these people are, but I would really like to thank them.”

“He’s been quite lucky,” Luca’s partner told Glasgow Live . “He hasn’t suffered any major injuries, but he needs to have surgery.”

Luca has not suffered any fractures or damage to nerves, but has sustained damage to muscles in his arm. Images shared by the family, which are too graphic to show, display two deep wounds on Luca’s arm where flesh has been ripped away, as well as a number of deep puncture marks.

Luca jogs at Glasgow Green three times a week, with his partner saying he runs there because it is light in the evenings and feels safe. She added: “He has never been afraid of dogs, but these kind of dogs, you can’t prevent what they can do. They are quite aggressive and there are kids in that park.”

She added police and paramedics arrived on the scene “quickly” before Luca was rushed to hospital.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: ""Around 5.40pm on Friday, 8 November 2024, police were called to Glasgow Green following a report that a man had been bitten by what was described as a pit bull type dog.
