Rail disruption following Storm Éowyn is set to enter a third day in Glasgow.

Network Rail Scotland has announced disruption to lines across the Central Belt will continue on Sunday (January 26) due to "significant damage" caused by high winds. Images shared earlier today showed part of a roof blocking the line at the entrance of the tunnel to Glasgow Queen Street High Level.

ScotRail pulled all trains on Friday across Scotland and there were no Avanti West Coast services to Glasgow Central, with their locomotives going no further north than Preston. Network Rail Scotland said there have been more than 400 incidents related to Storm Éowyn reported on the railways.

Downed trees have been spotted on lines between Glasgow and Edinburgh and debris was reported on the Cathcart Circle. Routes have been surveyed by teams in locomotives, on foot and in a helicopter on Saturday, with more debris and downed trees found on the network.

While all lines have reopened north of Perth, as well as the Fife Circle, Edinburgh to Dundee line and the East Coast Main Line, other rail lines will continue to see disruption on Sunday. In a statement shared to social media, a spokesperson for Network Rail Scotland said: "Work to reopen Scotland's Railway following Storm Éowyn ongoing. Track inspections in locomotives, on foot and from the air have continued through Saturday, we’ve found more fallen trees and debris, adding to the 400+ incidents already reported.

"We’ve reopened all routes north of Perth, the Fife Circle, Edinburgh-Dundee, and the East Coast Main Line, but the significant damage caused by the storm on central-belt routes means disruption will continue into Sunday. Everyone at Scotland’s Railway is working hard to inspect and reopen routes, and we really appreciate your patience after what’s been a challenging few days.
