Work to repair damage to overhead wires on a rail track in Cambuslang has been completed two days after it was first discovered.

Commuters first faced delays on Tuesday morning (August 27) due to a broken down train near Kirkhill Station in Lanarkshire with services between Glasgow Central Station and Newton affected.

ScotRail later confirmed cancellations would continue all day due to the damage, with Network Rail engineers working on the repairs overnight. However, the overhead wires were fully repaired with disruption continuing throughout Wednesday and this morning (Friday) and engineers remaining at the scene.

Replacement bus services were in place for stations between Kirkhill and Newton Lanark.

Now, Network Rail has said the repairs are completed with ScotRail now working to move the broken down train.

The company said: "We’ve completed our repairs at Kirkhill, and the team are now working with @ScotRail to move the broken-down train involved in the incident before reopening the line shortly. Sorry for the disruption to journeys on this route – we appreciate your patience."
