Glasgow restaurant Sole Club to be replaced by new pan-Asian spot Extra_Ordinary
A new pan-Asian restaurant that will "seamlessly blend Japanese, Korean and Chinese cuisines" will open in Finnieston this month, replacing a well-known spot which just opened just last year.
Extra_Ordinary will take over the Sole Club site with the intimate casual dining restaurant, spearheaded by experienced Australian chef Tobias Fiegel.
The new eatery will offer an "extraordinary mix of traditional Asian ingredients", with many components crafted from scratch and redefined through innovative recipes.

Transforming the original Six by Nico venue in Finnieston, which first opened back in 2017, Sole Club opened in February last year as an exclusive ‘speakeasy-style’ 20-seater fish restaurant, it quietly closed on January 5 marking the start of what a spokesperson said will be a "fresh chapter for the space to push creative boundaries in food and drink".
The menu at Extra_Ordinary, which the team say will be 'reasonably priced', will include enticing dishes such as kohlrabi kimchi, udon with XO mussels, char siu Chinese pancake, and yuzu-kosho tomato sashimi.
Tobias, an Australian-Italian who grew up in Sydney, will open his first restaurant venture in Glasgow having crafted his trade in some of Sydney's most recognised spots including the likes of Sean's Panorama, Black Star Pastry, and Edition Coffee Roasters, where he first discovered his passion for Japanese food through Japanese-Nordic fusion.
It’s not just the food people can look forward to, Extra_Ordinary will also offer a wide range of local and international beverages, including exquisite wines, sake, whisk(e)y and cocktails, all "with a story to tell".
Encouraged by his mentor and interactions with internationally recognised chefs such as René Redzepi, Tobias made the move to Scandinavia and gained invaluable experience at Restaurant Geist and Geranium in Copenhagen as well as Restaurant Ask in Finland before settling in Scotland to work for Stuart Ralston at Aizle and Nico Simeone at Six by Nico.
For this new venture, Chef Tobias is heading up the research and creative for the food development, while Nico Simeone serves as a business mentor, guiding and driving the new restaurant project with him.
Tobias said: "Opening Extra_Ordinary is an incredibly exciting opportunity offered to me by Nico Simeone that enables me to combine my passion for various Asian cuisines and share them with the people of Glasgow. In essence, this is the food I enjoy cooking and eating, and in this sleek and stylish environment, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work with ingredients and creative approaches that I am genuinely passionate about".
Extra_Ordinary will open on Friday, January 31 in the now former Sole Club site at 1132 Argyle Street in Finnieston.
