Glasgow schools targeted with 'malicious email' as police launch probe

Police are probing a 'malicious email' which was sent to a number of schools in the central belt.

Schools in Glasgow, South Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire received the messages at around 8.50am on Thursday, October 31. It is understood that detectives visited a school in East Renfrewshire as part of their investigation.

The content of the email is not yet known. Police say they are working with local authorities to investigate the matter.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers from Police Scotland were called to an incident, believed to be a malicious email, made to a number of schools in Glasgow, South Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire around 8.50am on Thursday, 31 October, 2024.

“Enquiries are being carried out in conjunction with the relevant local authorities."

The Record has contacted East Renfrewshire Council, East Dunbartonshire Council and South Lanarkshire Council.

Glasgow City Council said they would not be able to comment due to the incident being a "police matter".
