The Scottish National Whisky Festival scheduled to be held at SWG3 in Glasgow on Saturday (January 25) has been cancelled.

The popular Yorkhill venue, close to the banks of the Clyde, sustained damage during Storm Éowyn on Friday, with both the festival organisers and the venue saying they had "no choice" but to cancel the event. The travelling whisky festival had organised a special Burns Night edition at the venue, slated to be the festival's 'biggest ever'.

In a statement shared to social media by both SWG3 and the Scottish National Whisky Festival, it was said there was not "sufficient time" to repair storm damage before the event got underway. It had been scheduled for between midday and 8pm on Saturday.

Scottish National Whisky Festival organisers urged ticketholders to keep their tickets until a new date is announced. Refunds are also available from the point of purchase, the organisers added.

The statement from SWG3 and the Scottish National Whisky Festival read: "Unfortunately, due to damage sustained at the venue as a result of today’s Scottish National Whisky Festival is no longer able to go ahead as planned. Although today’s weather is looking a little better, we cannot confirm at this stage that there will be sufficient time to deal with the damages in order to be able to fully open safely for today’s event.

"Therefore, SNWF [Scottish National Whisky Festival] and the venue, have no other choice but to postpone the event until further notice. While we are absolutely devastated to call it at this late stage, after working so hard yesterday to ensure the event continued as planned, the safety of all staff, exhibitors and attendees is of the utmost importance and we ask kindly for your patience and understanding at this time.
