A West End community council has issued a plea to resurface kerbside pavements in the area using money from a council infrastructure fund.

Dowanhill, Hyndland and Kelvinside Community Council has raised concerns about the conditions of the pavements on Athole Gardens in Downanhill which has been described as a "prominent part” of the West End just off Byres Road.

Athole Gardens, which is renowned for its architecture and green space, is visited often by tourists and valued by local residents.

The community council is now proposing to replace the entire surface of the pavements between 1 and 20 Athole Gardens as well as parts of Saltoun Street with new tarmac surfaces.

Pavements will match with surrounding repairs and move from the granolithic, high quality materials, making it less expensive to complete.

Large displaced kerbstones will also require to be re-laid.

Proposals are expected to be presented to the Partick East/Kelvindale area partnership committee next week as part of the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Improvement Fund (NIIF) Programme.

The fund has seen £1 million allocated for improvements in each of the city’s 23 council wards with options to invest in roads, lighting, footways, traffic signals and other vital infrastructure across the city.

Community representatives have a direct say on how the money will be spent. A discussion on the plans is expected to take place next Wednesday.
