Glasgow's Steak and Cherry restaurant has announced that it will close its doors permanently next month after more than a decade serving hungry party-goers.

The late-night diner became well known for fuelling clubbers as they came tumbling out of the Garage after hours. Originally situated on Sauchiehall Street directly across from the venue, Steak and Cherry was left in ruin after being burnt out in 2011.

More than 3,000 fans later joined an online campaign to get the Steak and Cherry up and running again just hours after the blaze. It would later re-open in its current location next to Genting Casino following a pivot to a more family-friendly diner - serving burgers, steak, pizza and other delicacies until the early hours.

Now the owners have announced last orders as the venue is set to close on October 12.

In a post on social media, they said: "After an incredible 10 years, Steak and Cherry is closing its doors. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our wonderful customers for their support.

"Serving you has been an absolute honour - thank you for being part of our journey. We hope you'll join us in our next adventure."

One former clubber described the diner as an institution in the city's nightlife before the 2011 fire, commenting: "It was an institution for (my) generation who went there after a club night. I have core memories of having drunken 4am pancakes."

Others were also quick to share their heartbreak at the news, with another adding: "I loved the old place up the close across the Road."

A third wrote: "Sad news from Sauchiehall Street."

A fourth said: "I know I’m never going to get a Ribeye like yours again. The most perfectly cooked steak ever."
