Glastonbury 2017: Minute's silence held for victims of terror attacks and Grenfell fire

Festival-goers at Glastonbury took time out of Sunday’s music schedule to stand for a minute's silence in memory of those killed in recent atrocities in the UK.

Joy Division and New Order co-founder Peter Hook led the silence from the Pyramid Stage.

The crowd cheered as Mr Hook took to the stage before falling quiet – with some solemnly waving “WE [heart] MCR” flags.

“I have been very kindly asked by the Eavis family to lead this minute’s silence,” Mr Hook said.

“And can we please use it as a chance to send our hopes and our prayers for love, life and freedom – the things that we are here to celebrate.

“We send out sympathies to everyone affected by the events in London and Manchester and everyone affected in Grenfell Tower.

“God bless you all. Thank you.”

Mr Hook’s previously revealed that his daughter was at the Manchester Ariana Grande concert where a suicide bomber killed 22 people.

He told BBC presenters Ore Oduba and Sara Cox that she was “trampled” in the crowds but was not seriously injured.
