Glee Star Agron Lands Role In McQueen Play

Glee star Dianna Agron is swapping the small screen for a London stage where she will make her debut in a play about the life of designer Alexander McQueen.

The American actress, who played Quinn Fabray in the musical TV show, will play a fan obsessed with the designer, who committed suicide in 2010.

Agron, 28, tweeted her excitement about the play: "Feels so wonderful to finally be able to say... this is happening. #McqueenThePlay"

A two-hour finale of Glee is being aired in the US on Friday night.

Bluestone 42 star Stephen Wight will play the title role in McQueen at St James Theatre in London from 12 May.

The cast also includes former EastEnders actress Tracy-Ann Oberman who will play McQueen's friend and fellow designer Isabella Blow.

The play, by James Phillips, is set on a single night in London when Agron's character breaks into McQueen's home to steal a dress but ends up criss-crossing London with him.

McQueen, who was known as Lee to friends and family, grew up in the city's East End.

He was the son of a taxi driver and left school at 16 but quickly rose through the fashion industry to become one of the world's leading designers.

He was 40 when he killed himself the day before his mother's funeral after struggling with depression.

Blow killed herself in 2007.

The fashion house that bears McQueen's name remains hugely influential and the Duchess of Cambridge's intricately decorated wedding dress was designed by Sarah Burton who became creative director of the fashion house Alexander McQueen after his death.

An exhibition of McQueen's own creations is currently open at the Victoria And Albert Museum in London.
