Global radio is reportedly axing its North East shows following a decision to centralise Heart, Smooth and Capital radio stations.

Shows across the Global network in England will be aired from a central hub in London, while output will continue on a national level in Scotland and Wales.

RadioToday reports that jobs will be lost across the country and regional offices will close. ChronicleLive understands that Global's Newcastle office is due to close on February 21, however, this has not been confirmed by the company.

There are around 20 regional programmes in England across the Heart, Smooth and Capital brands, including the Heart North East's 'Drive' programme hosted by Vicky Pattison and Adam Lawrance between 4pm and 7pm every weekday.

Vicky has presented the show alongside Adam since September 2023 after standing in for presenters on a number of occasions. When she announced her new role on air she said she had aspired to be a presenter for Heart North East and had included it on a vision board for five years prior to the job offer.

A Global spokesperson said: "We are indeed making some changes today and we will announce more details in due course."
