Gloucester City keeper goes viral for scoring 'most comical own goal ever'
The Gloucester City goalkeeper had an embarrassing moment during the draw at Walton & Hersham over the weekend. A video posted on social media shows Jared Thompson trying to pass to one of his defenders before winds from Storm Bert intervened.
After leaving Thompson's foot, the ball got picked up by the winds and hit the post of the goal before ending up in the back of The Tigers' net. The Southern League Premier fixture finished 4-4 with all eight goals being scored at one end of the pitch in Surrey.
A video of the own goal has since gone viral on social media. Walton & Hersham FC have described it as the "most comical own goal ever seen at non-league level".

They said in a post on X during the game: "It’s arguably the most comical own goal ever seen at non-league level, as the Gloucester keeper blasts the ball into his own net from 5 yards out. Just wait for the highlights of this one."
Storm Bert battered the UK with heavy rain and strong winds over the weekend. According to the Met Office, winds hit speeds of around 60mph in some areas of the country.
