Gloucester Rugby transfer rumours: Departing winger Jonny May finds new club

78-cap England international Jonny May is set to move to the French Pro D2 next season according to the latest reports.

May is one of just seven players to leave Kingsholm this summer along with loosehead prop Harry Elrington, fly-half Adam Hastings, winger Alex Hearle and hooker Santi Socino from the senior squad and Senior academy players Rob Nixon and Will Gilderson.

May, 34, enjoyed two spells with the Cherry and Whites having spent three years at Leicester Tigers between 2017 and 2020 and expressed that he would like to have played on for one more year at his first professional club having come through the club's academy but a deal could not be agreed, with Christian Wade arriving from Racing 92 in the summer.

May hung up his boots from international duty following England’s third-place finish at the Rugby World Cup in 2023, finishing as his nation’s second-highest try scorer in the men’s game. with 36 scores.

Now reports in France suggest that May has signed a two-year contract with Soyaux Angoulême XV Charente, with the deal set to be confirmed later today.

Angoulême finished 12th overall out of 16 clubs in the Pro D2.
