Good Morning Britain was hit by an embarrassing production fail today (July 24).

As presenters Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan were introducing actor Daniel Mays, there was a crash in the background.

Susanna then looked alarmed as she (for once) interrupted her co-host to ask what all the commotion was.

"Oh sorry there," she said to one of the crew standing off-camera. "You alright there on camera four? Oh it's camera five and the lights."

After checking out what exactly was going on, an unimpressed Piers added: "Something is going horribly wrong!"

He then explained: "Ah, the jig, our roving large camera, has been smashing into the lights. If you're wondering whats' going on, that is what is going on."

Once all was sorted, the presenters were then able to get the show back on track and interview actor Daniel, who was promoting new BBC drama Against the Law, in which he plays the role of gay journalist Peter Wildeblood.

The star has never played a gay character before and admitted it was out of his "comfort zone".

However, after reading the script, he was determined to undertake the role.

"The actual prospect of playing this character and breathing life into this is really important because it is such a timely story," he said. "[Any hesitations] went away when I was offered the opportunity to do this. My wife said it was a great opportunity as well."

Commenting on the love scenes, Daniel revealed he drank half a bottle of champagne beforehand.

He added: "All of those scenes were done on the last day. We had the choice to do it at the beginning but our director, who has done a great job, made the executive decision to do it then.

"And it was so important that we did film these scenes too because it is the most integral part in the whole thing. That's the reason we made the drama because the act of love making between two men was a criminal act then back then."

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am.
