Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway is to front a new documentary about her husband Derek Draper's battle with coronavirus (COVID-19), ITV has announced.

Kate Garraway: Finding Derek, which is set to air later this year, will follow Kate as she offers "an intimate insight" into how she and her family have coped with her husband's illness and the impact of COVID-19.

Derek was hospitalised last spring after contracting the virus, and remains in intensive care for continued treatment today.

The one-off special will see the GMB favourite present "an unflinching account of the profound effects on her family and on others" in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As well as sharing her own experiences of Derek's illness, Kate will also discuss the lesser-known long-term effects of the virus with people who have since recovered from the initial infection.

The official description for Kate Garraway: Finding Derek continues: "As Kate lays bare in the film, her family, along with many others who have suffered the effects of the virus, is now facing the reality of adjusting to a very different way of life to the one they lived before the pandemic hit."

"By telling the story of Derek's illness and how it has altered our lives, I hope to be able to reach out to others who are suffering," she said of her latest project.
