Yahoo News GMB's Kate Garraway says husband is COVID-free but extremely ill
Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has given viewers an update on her husband Derek Draper, as he continues to receive treatment for complications of coronavirus.
Kate appeared on today's (June 5) show for the first time since her husband's hospitalisation and explained that although Derek is now testing negative for COVID-19, he remains "very, very sick".
The presenter said that she is feeling hopeful and positive about the extent of Derek's recovery, but conceded that there is still "absolute uncertainty". Revealing that her husband's situation is "extremely rare", Kate also acknowledged that she is fortunate to have "the option of praying and hoping when others have had that stripped away."

"[Coronavirus has] affected him from the top of his head to the tip of his toes," she added. "He is now COVID-free... The fight with the virus has been won, and he's still here. But it's wreaked extraordinary damage on his body and we don't know if he can recover from that."
Kate also paid tribute to the "brilliant doctors" who have been caring for Derek since his hospitalisation back in March, despite the complexity of his case. "One doctor said to me that he is the worst affected person he's had to treat that's lived," she continued.
"Thank god he's lived so far and I'm so grateful for that, but [the doctors] don't know."

Reflecting on the consequences of what she's called an "evil virus", Kate told viewers that many survivors of the disease are now "living but with completely unforeseen consequences".
"There's going to be people who have emotional consequences [and] physical consequences," she said. "We know that the country is in a terrible state, and we're worried about everybody's positions economically and everything. But for some people, there are going to be big consequences despite the doctors' brilliant knowledge."
