'Gnarly' Lightning Strikes Just Ahead of Car During Severe Mississippi Weather

A woman who was on her way home in Carthage, Mississippi, on March 26, hit record on the off chance that she might catch a lightning strike on camera. All it took was about 40 seconds before a “gnarly” bolt came down right in front of her.

Miranda Nicole Furrer told Storyful that thunderstorms and severe weather had been sweeping across the southern states, and that she had noticed “all the cloud-to-ground lightning.”

In the footage, an impressive purple bolt can be seen, with Furrer uttering a faint gasp as she listens to a radio discussion on the stormy weather.

“To me, it was a BEAUTIFUL sight,” she said. Credit: Miranda Nicole Furrer via Storyful
