God of War reveals release date and new trailer

From Digital Spy

Kratos is back and it looks like God of War is heading to the PS4 sooner than we thought.

Sony is certainly hyping up the eighth game in the popular series, giving some major changes to the classic formula.

Since 2005, fans have sunned themselves in Greece as while tackling the Gods of Olympus, but the latest instalment is finding a much colder locale.

Heading to Scandinavia, players will face a new breed of powered deities, this time plucked from Norse mythology.

While Kratos is once again the de facto lead of the piece, he has a son along for the ride this time.

The trailer has mellowed him slightly from bloodthirsty vengeance monster to caring father - and it's a look we're digging.

As a soft reboot of the series, God of War is the official sequel to 2010's God of War III . Over the past eight years, it certainly looks like Sony has been working hard on the series.

With a confirmed release date of April 20, fans don't have long to wait before they can take the Spartan warrior out of Sparta and really see what he can do.

April 20 sounds like it will be a big day for gaming, also seeing the release of the Nintendo's cardboard Labo accessories.

There are ambitious plans that the latest chapter will be just the start of a reinvigorated franchise and open the door to other worlds like Egyptian mythology.

As one of this year's biggest games, let's hope the wait is worth it when God of War hits the PS4 in April.
