The Gogglebox: Brexit Special paid a touching tribute to former narrator Caroline Aherne following her death last month.

The families of the hit reality show returned to our screens last night (Aug 3) for a special episode about the result of the EU Referendum, which saw the stars comment on Brexit and the political fallout.

At the end of the show – which had been narrated by Caroline’s former Royle Family co-star Craig Cash – producers paid a touching tribute to the comedy legend with a message that read: “In loving memory of Caroline Aherne.”

During the end credits, Oasis’ Half The World Away (aka The Royle Family theme tune) played to allow viewers to take a moment to reflect on the talents and work of the late star.

This was the first episode of the show that has aired since the actress, writer and comedian sadly lost her battle with throat cancer aged 52.

Reporting the tragic news at the time, her publicist Neil Reading said: “Caroline Aherne has sadly passed away, after a brave battle with cancer.”

Gogglebox’s executive producer Tania Alexander previously said that she and “the whole Gogglebox family are devastated by the loss of Caroline Aherne, a close friend and colleague.”

Rest in peace, Caroline Aherne (1963 – 2016). You’ll be greatly missed.
