Gogglebox favourites Pete and Sophie Sandiford have been stealing the show since 2017, delighting viewers with their comical insights on the week's television highlights.

The Blackpool-based siblings are fan favourites, with Pete particularly known for his incisive humour and updates about his life off-screen. He recently shared with Sophie an amusing anecdote about how his wife, Paige, was less than pleased with the arrangements for their daughter's birthday bash.

For those fans who've been pondering where Pete and Sophie get their sharp wit and satirical edge, the secret is out as they come from a family with a rich comedic heritage.

Their uncle is Paul Elliot reports the Mirror, better known as one half of the legendary comedy duo the Chuckle Brothers, alongside his late brother Barry Elliot.

Paul has been dropping hints about this familial link for some time now, often posting adorable photos of his great-niece and nephew on Twitter. Back in 2018, Paul tweeted a throwback photo with Pete and Sophie, captioning it: "This day 2018 with my great niece and nephew @PeteandSophie #Gogglebox."

A sharp-eyed fan made the connection, exclaiming: "THAT'S why they're so funny!" In another heartwarming post from June 2019, Paul shared a snapshot featuring himself, his wife Sue, Pete and Sophie, and their half-sister Lucy, all enjoying a lovely family meal together.

A follower spotted a family likeness, remarking: "Can so see Barry in Pete. Now I know where he gets his comic side from. May Barry's legend live on in Pete."

In 2018, after the loss of her Uncle Barry to bone cancer, Sophie took to Twitter to express her emotions stating: "A truly lovely and funny man to be around. You filled millions of childhoods with laughter and entertainment including mine and Peters."

Citing their famous catchphrase, she additionally stated: "You will be sadly missed by many. Rest in peace Uncle Barry. Lots of love from me, to you." Paul offered some hindsight into what could have contributed to Barry's untimely end - his 'fear of hospitals'.

While speaking to the Daily Star, he unveiled: "All his life, one of his problems was that he hated going to see the doctor. He hated hospitals. He couldn't stand the smell of them."

He further mused: "And probably that was a big thing towards his downfall. A lot of men are like that. I'm not because my wife tells me to go and get that sorted, go and see what that is. But that's correct. You should go."
